Me at Traigh Mhor

This blog is a space where I will post pictures, snippets of travels, food and entertaining or interesting moments of the journeys I undertake. It’s purpose is multifaceted, for those at home to see what I am up to/for staying in touch and for those that I meet on the road to keep in contact with, something of a visual and written record for myself (I write a diary everyday) but this is almost like talking to someone and although I didnt go a day without meeting someone new on my last trip I found pouring out an online update helped me to feel in touch with home. Ultimately it is for my Mum so that she knows that I am safe!

In September 2011 I set off on my first solo journey by bicycle and I blogged about it here, I have kept the blog going with bits and pieces going on in the UK since I returned 15 months ago. Travelling is addictive, as many are aware, and so I am off again. Although I am not normally one for returning to previously visited places I am heading back to Italy to WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) for 6 weeks, with a week in Sardinia discovering the mountains, beaches and sights too.

Now cycle touring is truly addictive! With just a couple of trips under my belt, The Netherlands to Italy and around The Outer Hebrides, I am certainly no expert on the subject but have gained a great love of adventure and discovering new places by bicycle. With this in May I will be on the road again heading further east across Europe cycling the length of The Danube River. Starting from The Black Forest in Germany and heading out to the Black Sea where the river’s delta creates a stunning landscape on the coast of Romania. There is then the possibility of continuing on to Istanbul by following the coast southward into Turkey, but we shall see how it all goes.

I feel that I have to mention the writings of Al Humphreys, particularly Moods of Future Joys and Thunder and Sunshine. To me his books conveyed experiences in such passionate prose that have always made me feel that my journeys are going to be possible, if you haven’t read them then they are a must read! He writes of his time from a man out of uni who knows relatively nothing about cycle travel to an adventurer who cycles the world in 4 years on a budget of just £7000. A good read.

So I have said enough here. Read, enjoy, comment and stay in touch!

You’re amazing! I am cycling across America with my doggy, Fiji, and my violin. I hope to cycle in Scotland and learn fiddling some day!
